August is great for the wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, many of which can be enjoyed either raw or only lightly cooked. This year, at least here in Toronto, it’s a great season for cucumbers and we’re on at least the 4th batch of pickles.
Last month we shared some tips for making sure your pickles are crisp, and this month Gayle Hurmuses provides a basic recipe for Perfect Pickles with some variations.

Lester’s Farm Market
GaddAboutEating has sent her travel notes while on vacation in Newfoundland, where as always, she is enjoying the local cuisine. In this edition she tells about her visit to the famous Lester’s Farm Market in St John’s.

As always, GaddAbout recipes are both filling and delicious. Tortilla Soup, with vegetarian variation, and a nicely complementary Bean Salad are great summer dishes. Rounding out her Tex-Mex offerings , she has also presented a recipe for a salsa that you can process and preserve!
