February is a great time for rich, spicy stews and decadent treats to wake up the palate. Cheesecake, chicken cacciatore, any type of curry, lasagna, lobster tail, meatloaf, salmon, and stew are all excellent choices to chase the mid-winter blues away…or nurse them along. Depending on the fullness of the moon, you may be making a lot of pancakes this month.
Valentine’s Day gives us an extra excuse for sharing a decadent homemade delicacy with someone special. Chocolate fondue, or fondue in general, are great lover’s meals, shared tête-à-tête.
If you farm or garden, this is a good time to begin preparing your planting pots and starting early seeds. Try to have them ready by the end of the month. Some peppers take as long as 10 months to come to fruition. The same is true of ginger, turmeric and galangal. It’s also a good time to start some lettuce if you have warming trays.
