January

January is a time for winter vegetables or preserved & frozen produce. In all of Canada, this is a cold month and there is likely to be snow. January is a good time to make comforting foods like breads, cakes, soups, and stews, especially rich and flavourful ones like Mulligatawny soup, or chili, enhanced with spicy condiments. Pizza night can be especially fun now, while spending time in the warmth of home.

If you farm or garden, you’ll spend some time making sure your seeds are ordered and your planting schedule is organized. There is no planting, cultivation, or harvesting to be done just yet, unless you have a greenhouse.
